What’s in a Name?

What’s in a Name?

Naming your child is one of the most important things you can do for them.

In ancient African tradition, the date and time a child was born were taken into consideration before it was named. They would hold elaborate Naming Ceremonies in which the child would receive the names passed down to them ancestrally. Their Life Path was also determined using the ancient sciences of Astrology and Numerology, to discover their ‘destiny’. Once this was established, the child would be given a name that would help them on their journey in life. Africans knew that the name a child was given at birth would carry it spiritually for the rest of its life.

During the enslavement of our ancestors, the first thing that was taken away from them was their name, which had the effect of cutting them off from their ancestral roots. They were given their enslavers names, which attached them spiritually, as well as physically. The enslavers knew the devastating effect this would have on their captives.

Is it any surprise that today, that many of us lack Self-identity? We are trying to be something we are not. The solution to this dilemma is to re-trace our African roots and reclaim a name that will re-connect us again. Astrology and Numerology are also useful tools to help you discover your purpose (what you came here to do in this lifetime), your hidden talents, your strengths and weaknesses, and will help you get ‘on track’ to fulfill your destiny. When I talk about Astrology, I’m not talking about the horoscopes in newspapers and magazines, I’m talking about getting your Birth Chart drawn up, which will be personal to you, including the time you were born (if you know it). When you go for a job and you give the employer your name and date of birth, they can learn a lot about you just from that information!

Year Three of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’ will show you how to work out your Life Path Number; you can read the extract FREE at www.journeyofasister.com you can also start the journey from the beginning by reading Year One FREE!

When I worked out my Life Path using Numerology and Astrology, they spoke of me being highly creative, and even mentioned poetry and art, singing, dancing. Because I am a number #1, I have a natural ability to lead others. I am fulfilling my purpose using my natural gifts of poetry, literature and art.

I’ve always been guided by my inner voice (not always listened, mind you!). When it came to naming my three ‘suns’ who are now aged 24, 21 and 12, I was led to give them all names with the letters ‘A’ and ‘Z’ in them. I didn’t know the significance of this until about 8 years ago; the letters ‘A’ and ‘Z’ represent the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last, the Alpha and Omega. This is to remind them that they are gods, with the power to create their future with their thoughts, words and actions.

My name also has the letters ‘A’ and ‘Z’ in it; this isn’t the name I was born with, my birth name is ‘Carol Ann’, but my ‘spiritual’ name is ‘Cezanne’ (similar to Abram’s name being changed to Abraham in the bible). I received the name when I was about 14 years old; I was doodling on the back of my textbook in class, when the name just appeared in the doodles! It stayed in the back of my mind for the 20 years I was a blocked writer and artist, and when I was going through the process of Self-healing, this is the name that came to mind to name my inner child:

If you are yet to have children, the best thing you can do for them upon birth, is to get their Life Path Number and Birth Chart worked out. Then use these to give them a name that will help them fulfill their destiny. It took me 35 years to discover my destiny, and to begin walking in it. If I’d had a clear map from birth, I might have arrived where I am now much sooner!

If your name isn’t serving you, it’s not too late to change it. Earlier this year, both me and my two older suns changed our name by Deed Poll. The day they came to me and said they wanted to change their surname so they didn’t pass a slave master’s name down to their children had to be one of the happiest days of my life! (My youngest sun has his father’s African names).
